I loved this reflection Emily! I’ve struggled to learn how to “treat myself” over the years. I was raised in low income/poverty and so any sort of indulgence was always frowned upon. Even something as simple as not ordering the absolute cheapest thing on a menu. The only thing that has helped me to overcome some of this conditioning is going through my mom dying before she could retire and enjoy herself 😳 not a great way to learn this lesson!

Oh, Jen, I'm sorry for your mom ♥️ I am also from a lot of nothing and it's been such a hard thing to unlearn. What's helping me is watching my own kids struggle with enjoying themselves or spending money just for fun. In a weird way it's a good motivator for me to do better, setting examples for them.

One quote that helped me a lot is Julia Cameron, "luxury is a learned practice" ♥️

Yes! Having a baby has totally made me more aware of not wanting to pass this "burden" on. I hope we can find a healthy balance between him understanding the value of money, while not being driven by anxiety around it...if you figure out how to do that please share haha
